Namaste Friend

I hope you are creating positive things
in your life and are enjoying and appreciating
all the experiences life has to offer.

Today I want to share something with you
that I have recently discovered about my thoughts.

Not just MY thoughts but thoughts in general…

Do you find yourself sometimes feeling so filled
with thoughts that you just can’t think straight?

You try to focus on one thing and within seconds
Your mind is already off on another something you have to do,
something that needs remembering, a memory of something
someone has said to you recently or whatever it is that
keeps your head busy during your waking (and sleeping) hours…

I have discovered that all our thoughts can be placed
in 3 main categories:

Planning..

Memory..

And Judgement

Sound plausible?

The planning part is quite simple to understand.
We all need to plan. There are households and businesses
to run and without proper planning we could find ourselves
in a bit of a tough spot.

Memory is everything we remember ourselves seeing,
doing, hearing, saying, feeling and smelling AS WELL
as the actions of others.

As you know by now, our memories shape our perceptions.
Our memories are not all accurate-
yet we base most of what we know on them.

When we do spend the time recalling memories,
we are affected emotionally (and physically) and our minds
tend to wander along very interesting paths.

And finally… Judgement

We judge others and ourselves.
Whenever we judge anything (including ourselves)
we are sending energy into the universe that
sometime in the future will need to be
sent back in order to restore the balance.
(this is the basic rule of Karma- more on this in a future letter)

When we can get to the point of NAMING instead of JUDGING
We will be able to live more freely and balanced.

Naming is: bed, window, person…
Judging is: unmade bed, dirty window, ugly person…

It is one of the hardest things we have come to learn in this life.

Now, take a few minutes every day and start
to WATCH your thoughts.
Just watch- DON’T judge.

And when you can recognise a thought place it in one of the 3 categories:
Planning, Memory or Judgement.

Talk to yourself and say:
Okay- that was a memory
And that was planning
Ooo, and that was judgement.

Remember, don’t judge.
WATCH your thoughts with almost detached awareness
and try to exhibit an impersonal relationship to these thoughts.

And be prepared to laugh at yourself.
You will be amazed at what your mind brings up!

Also remember: Planning is important and so are memories
BUT you have many hours in the day to do these things.

Meditation is the few minutes that you take
out of the day where you say to yourself,

“Right, I can worry and plan all I like for the rest of the day,
but for the next 15 minutes I don’t need to.”

Just enjoy being a watcher-just categorizing the thoughts.

And eventually, the thoughts will become
less frequent and less distracting
until you can get to the point where you discover
the stillness between the thoughts.

And that is where you get to meet you higher (sublime) self.

The being who is watching these thoughts is your higher (sublime) self.
The thoughts ARE NOT your higher (sublime) self.

It is a great place to be! Enjoy it-
even if initially it only last for a few seconds.
