First, I would like to apologize for this discussion being posted late in the month. I have been distracted by my garden.
I like to freeze or dry many of the items that I get from my garden. I store the frozen items in freezer bags that zip shut. The items that I dry, I store in tupperware plastic containers because I can knock the air out and keep it sealed tightly.
My zuchini gets made into bread. The bread is put into air-sealed plastic bags and then frozen until needed.
My best friend was not able to put in a garden this year but she did not want to be left out of the summer end event of Harvesting and Storing. So she went to the store and bought a lot of tomatoes. Then she gathered her teenage children and many of their friends. She spent every day for about a week teaching the teenagers how to can the tomatoes. This was a fantastic learning project for the teens and a great community project for my friend. I have never seen her smile so much while she was working with the teens on this project. She is a very good teacher and has lots of patience with the older kids.
What are you Harvesting from your garden this year??
How have you stored it? Or how are you planning on storing it?
Will you take this opportunity to teach someone in a younger generation such as a child, grandchild or great-grandchild??
Will you being working alone or with family members or with neighbors and friends?
Do you have any tips and tricks to share with any of us??
